I went LIVE yesterday talking about Impostor Syndrome and how it may hinder progress in goals, especially when challenges come up.
If you aren't familiar, Impostor Syndrome is
“a term coined in 1978 by clinical psychologists Dr. Pauline R. Clance and Suzanne A. Imes referring to high-achieving individuals marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a “fraud”…Despite external evidence of their competence, those exhibiting the syndrome remain convinced that they are frauds and do not deserve the success they have achieved. Proof of success is dismissed as luck, timing, or as a result of deceiving others into thinking they are more intelligent and competent than they believe themselves to be.”
Is this real life for you or can you not relate?
Because I legit feel that way everyday! Oh no! What if they find out I grew up in the south and ratched-ness will come out, OR that I am equal parts nerd and I looove Harry Potter and all things science, OR that I have no idea what I am doing in my business but I know that I am learning and getting better everyday, OR that I am painfully an introvert! Painful because I will miss opportunities just to stay at home and read a great book OR that one of my favorite things to do after a long day is to sit crossed legged while wearing insanely large sweat pants, sipping green tea and watching the stars talking with someone about all the questions we have but are too scared to ask.
And honestly none of those things makes me a fraud...they make me...ME!
Over the years I found the one cure for Impostor Syndrome....ACTION...taking action to do something everyday, to be better than you were yesterday, and to fulfill all the promises you've made to yourself that includes phrases like 'I'll do it tomorrow", "One last time", "well if it wasn't raining", or "I don't know how to do that".
Decide who you what to be...what you want to do..what you want to have and ACT! You'll be too busy doing...you won't have to time to doubt.
