Depression IS REAL!
I am not sure if you've dealt with it or you've had someone close to you experience it...But it can have you feeling stuck, unmotivated and alone. And worst you feel like you can't do any thing to get out of it.
On the contrary...you can! Before I began Zipporah Monique, I dealt with depression and anxiety for a number of years until I felt like I was spiraling out of control headed for disaster...Until I made one change that flipped everything around for me.
A MORNING ROUTINE.
Yes! That simple.
Successful people have one thing in common, they empower their mornings. Whether athletes, entrepreneurs or even presidents, they dedicate a lot of their success to their morning routine.
When you start every day with healthy habits and planning you are able to focus on what is important in your life; you consciously and subconsciously take action towards the life you want to cultivate. There are many benefits of establishing a morning routine with a major one being able to pour into yourself before jumping into the hustle and bustle of life. We can get lost in our busy lives so spending time doing something for you is very important. Depending on what your morning routine consists of, it can help you with everything from getting more focused to getting into better physical shape.
Check out these two scenarios.
You wake up by the sound of your alarm blaring on your smart phone at 7:30 am. You immediately press snooze and roll over. 10 minutes later you alarm is going off again, you reluctantly turn it off and start checking social media and email while still in bed. You become stressed just looking at the list of urgent emails in your inbox, so you jump up to start your day. You are barely able to have a quick shower and you have just enough time to speed through breakfast and you are out the door.
You naturally wake up at 6:30 am. You awake refreshed and full of gratitude, you smile, and start your day with some light yoga and stretches. You complete 10 minutes of meditation followed by a quick 10 minute workout. You head to the shower to savor every moment of your relaxing hot shower. After toweling off and dressing, you read a passage from your favorite book and review your daily goals. You feel amazingly calm and full of life, ready to start the day as you head out the door.
Which scenario is closer to your morning routine? Which scenario would you want to have? Which scenario do you think you will create a more productive day?
Often we underestimate how much of an impact the activities we do in the morning can affect our entire day. We must customize a routine for ourselves and make it a priority because it can skyrocket productivity and transform your life! Seriously, EVERY successful person has a morning routine...hands down.
My Morning Routine
To help me set up my successful morning routine I use the Acronym
(Taken from Miracle Morning By Hal Elrod. )
Your morning routine does not need to go in this order, as it should be unique to your preferences and lifestyle, but make sure they do incorporate the things below:
Make sure you are getting a healthy and fulfilling breakfast. Breakfast is important because you are breaking the fast you endured while sleeping. This helps your metabolism and helps you to focus on the important things and not how hungry you are.
"Expect problems, eat them for breakfast."
This helps to get you centered in the morning. It brings you closer to your maker and gives you a sense of calmness throughout the day. This usually includes prayer and/or meditation.
"Prayer is talking to God....Meditation is listening to God."
Affirmations are the things you tell yourself to empower your day. They are empowering statements that allow you to feed your subconscious positivity and abundance. Make a list of affirmations to say out loud that will help you dominate your day.
"Whether you think you can or you think you can't. You are right!"
I recommend looking at your 90 day goals and your Vision Board. This helps to keep your goals on the forefront of your mind so the actions you take throughout the day are made with your goals in mind. (If you don’t have a 90 day goal plan or vision board, I can help you create them. Schedule your FREE Discovery Session HERE.)
"We cannot arrive at our destination without a vision of how to do so."
Exercise has so many benefits for your body and mind and so can be a great way to start the day. Exercise gets your heart moving and has long term sustainable results. You can do a quick work out in the morning to jumpstart your day. Here is a quick intense 15 minute workout I use - Shaunn T 15 Minute Workout, very effective!
"The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen."
Reading gives you a chance to expand your thinking and gives you a platform for continued learning. I tend to read my bible and an amazing book by the name of You Are A Badass By Jen Sincero (Grab your copy HERE). Reading is FUNdamental!! (Corny…but it's true.)
"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads only lives one."
Journaling is an amazing tool for reflection and minimizing all the thoughts flowing through your head. I use the 5 minute journal which helps me to start and end my day on a positive note. You can also use a sheet of paper, you don't have to get fancy, just start writing. I also use this time to write down the top 3 things I need to get done throughout the day. This helps to remind me what is important and keeps me to stay on task.
"Journaling is a voyage to the interior. "
Incorporating these Life S.A.V.E.R.S into your day can be the difference between achieving your goals and remaining stagnant.
You don't have to incorporate all 6 things at once...
Start with just one Life Saver and build up to all 6. Over time you can continually add one more component to really maximize your day, but starting small can help build consistency.
Information is nothing without action and so my challenge to you is starting tomorrow… just wake up 15 minutes earlier and start with just one activity to kick-start your morning routine!
